Can I download it now?

Nearshell isn’t publicly available yet. Join the waitlist for an email when access opens. Pricing, trials and device allowances will be confirmed at launch.

Which apps do I need?

Install the Mac app on your Mac and the controller on iPhone / iPad. Minimum versions are macOS 26 and iOS / iPadOS 16.

Can I manage multiple Macs or use multiple controllers?

Yes. One account console manages your Macs, with separate connections and preferences. A Mac supports multiple authorized controller sessions; terminal input ownership is coordinated by the runtime. Device allowances depend on account entitlements.

Does every connection use a relay?

Realtime connections try a direct path first, using TURN when needed. Account sign-in, device authorization and connection coordination still require the official services. Video, input and terminal data are encrypted on both direct and relayed paths.

Does my Mac need to stay on?

Yes. Keep it awake, online and running Nearshell. Sleep, shutdown or a lost network connection can prevent access.

Do I need tmux or Herdr for terminals?

Not for Native shell. Install the corresponding program on your Mac to access tmux or Herdr sessions.

Does voice input execute commands immediately?

Recognition results go into an editable draft first. Sending does not add Return. Multiline text requires extra confirmation because the remote application’s handling of newlines may execute commands. Choose Apple on-device recognition or download a Whisper model; availability depends on device, system and language.

Why didn’t Picture in Picture start automatically?

Remote and terminal Picture in Picture are off by default. Enable each in app settings. Automatic activation also requires device support and the system’s Start PiP Automatically setting.

Why can I see the screen but not type?

Remote input requires Accessibility permission on your Mac. Check System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility, then follow system and app prompts to reopen the app.

What if menus are missing from an app window?

Separate menus, dialogs or overlays may fall outside the captured window. Switch to the full desktop to operate them.

How do I add a device without a camera?

Copy the add-device code shown on the Mac and paste it into the iPhone / iPad controller.
